Green Cycle Sustainable Development Foundation
Green Cycle Sustainable Development Foundation aims to change attitudes towards waste by raising the awareness of the impact of waste and pollution on public health and poverty. We will educate communities to take sustainable development into their own hands, tackling local issues through community action using local enterprise and developing youth skills. We want to raise the profile of these issues in Africa to prevent ecological damage during rapid economic growth, industrialisation and urbanisation.
Our goal is to impact communities by developing a foundation that has strong relationships, grows within and alongside communities, educating and building capacity for engagement in the local green economy. We want to highlight the importance of environmental health in maintaining public health and provide training programmes in using technology for personal development for youths with the aim to encourage a greater contribution to sustainable development in the community.

Working closely alongside Orile Iganmu Progressive Association (OIPA) Green Cycle aims to deliver a wide range of capacity building activities.
The foundation will focus in areas such as:
- Raising awareness of the link between environmental health and public health, with pollution generally and with specific hazardous waste issues
- Introduce the idea of green economy and showing the potential for local enterprise in waste management
- Providing youths with ICT training and technical skills
- Offering services to local businesses such as website building, graphic design and printing to give work experience to our graduates
- Creating a forum for discussion of local issues by local people
- Running a media institute to create an effective platform for youth expression
Green Cycle Foundation in collaboration with OIPA
As Green Cycle will have a physical presence within Orile Iganmu it will provide a hub for the community. This hub is a centre for education and capacity building activities. Unlike other programmes currently running in Lagos, Nigeria the social impact will be direct into the youths and members of OIPA.
Orile Iganmu Progressive Association (OIPA) is a Community Development Association (CDA) located in Orile Iganmu. Orile Iganmu is an impoverished community of over 800,000 people located in the heart of Lagos.
OIPA’s main activity is in providing ICT literacy courses for teenagers with insufficient education and qualifications to find work. The courses specialise in Web Design to give its graduates practical and specific skills that can provide them with opportunity for employment in a city in which the online economy is growing rapidly. If Green Cycle can harness the great work that OIPA has managed to achieve and develop the courses further we can reach many more people within the community of Orile Iganmu.
This goes much further than social impact, its implementing capacity in the grass roots of Lagos. Green Cycle Foundation is a scaleable model that can be implemented within CDA’s in Nigeria. Nigeria being the largest economy in Africa and Lagos a mega city of Africa with 20 million people we hope to build the foundations for many years to come.
